Supporting open scholarship through community and collaboration
The Open Institutional Publishing Association (OIPA) was founded to connect and encourage a diverse range of small to medium-sized university presses and university-affiliated publishing operations striving for open access. A group of emerging presses recognised the need for a new network of peers, bringing together colleagues already supporting open access publishing – and those at institutions who would like to – that share similar beliefs and motivations. By bringing this group together, we are creating a new community of practice which will support open access publishing activities at UK universities.
The people behind our institutional publishing operations have a wealth of experience that is stronger when shared. Creating an open future relies on connecting experiences and collaborative thinking.
Our mission:
Our mission is to create a new source of support for established and emerging university presses and institutionally-affiliated publishing operations striving for open access.
At our core, are five main principles. We will:
- Share experience, resources and ‘best practice’ in open access publishing for books and journals
- Foster support, collaboration and networking opportunities across the community
- Build partnerships with key players in the wider open access and scholarly communications communities
- Provide a collective voice for smaller institutionally-affiliated publishers in sector discussions about open access publishing
- Advocate for the expertise and value of institutional open access publishing
