Supporting open scholarship through community and collaboration
Join our community of practice to collaborate, connect and learn. Discover institutional publishers coming together to build a collective voice that amplifies the institutional publishing perspective in open scholarship and gives weight to discussions across the sector, including with funders, sector-wide organisations and other publishing groups.
Full Membership
OIPA encourages membership from a diverse range of UK-based university presses, institutionally-affiliated publishing operations and related organisations which meet the following criteria:
- Born or striving for OA not-for-profit University Presses and library-led publishers in the UK
- Other UK HEI libraries and departments that engage in open or open striving publishing activities (e.g., platform hosting and support)
- UK HE institutions looking to establish new open or striving for open publishing activities.
If you would like to apply for full membership please complete the application form.
New applicants will be invited to discuss their application by the Chair and a member of the Association to ensure that they fall within the membership criteria. If the Chair and Association member are satisfied, the Association will ratify membership, or raise any concerns, either by email or at the next Association meeting.
If you wish to discuss your application before submitting the form then please contact us.
Associate Membership
The Association is also keen to engage with other voices in the sector and so offers Associate Membership to other organisations that do not meet the criteria for full membership but do meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Not-for-profit organisations that operate as constructive partners in the open publishing environment
- HEI-equivalent institutions based outside the UK that engage in, or are looking to engage in, open publishing activities
- Non-HE research-supporting institutions e.g. from the galleries, libraries, archives and museums (GLAM) sector, that engage in, are looking to engage in, open publishing activities
Associate Members are welcome to fully participate in all OIPA meetings, activities and events. Associate Members’ representatives are not eligible for membership of the OIPA committee, though are welcome to join other groups and working parties if relevant. Associate members are also not eligible to vote at meetings (for example at committee elections). Full Members will have priority for some benefits over Associate members (such as access to travel bursaries, joint applications for funding).
If you would like to apply for associate membership please complete the application form.
