Full Members

In line with the University of Aberdeen’s 1495 foundational statement ‘open to all and dedicated to the pursuit of truth in the service of others’, Aberdeen University Press publishes high quality open access research across all disciplines and fields of enquiry from scholars worldwide. As well as publishing primary research, we encourage works of synthesis which are multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary in their approach. Aberdeen University Press is committed to the highest standards of peer review and research integrity, while helping scholars to shape scholarly debate and public policy for national and global challenges.

Cardiff University Press (CardiffUP) was launched in 2015 as a digital-first, fully open access press. It is an academic-led, non-profit publisher of academic journals, monographs and conference proceedings. The current CardiffUP portfolio includes 11 active journals and 13 monographs/conference proceedings volumes. All publications are rigorously peer reviewed and high standards of research integrity are maintained. CardiffUP is among the few academic presses to accept submissions in the Welsh language. Two of its journals are student-led, and it also provides opportunities for early career researchers and postgraduate research students in editorial and Board member roles.

Coventry Open Press has been established (2023) to embrace the opportunities of Open Access scholarly publishing, based in, and supported by, the Research and Scholarly Publications Team in Coventry University’s Library. A fully OA initiative aiming to be a Diamond OA publisher, COPress aims to broaden awareness of Coventry University’s research achievements, further establish Coventry’s reputation as a centre of excellence for specific disciplines, and offer scholars in other institutions support in publishing their research, be they established writers or early career researchers. COPress is especially interested in providing a home for transdisciplinary research, as well as cementing the University’s place in the community by publishing locally-relevant research.

Edinburgh Diamond is a service provided by Edinburgh University Library that supports the publication of academic and student-led open access books and journals. The service is free of charge to Edinburgh staff and students and enables them to publish journals, textbooks, monographs and edited collections with full library support for hosting, technical support, policy development, training and more. The service team also facilitate a shared service for the Scottish Confederation of University & Research Libraries (SCURL), open to all SCURL members. We also provide an external partners hosting service for journals in the areas of librarianship and information studies, open access, or Scottish Studies.

Goldsmiths Press aims to revive and regenerate the traditions and values of university press publishing through the innovative use of print and digital media. Our publishing cuts across disciplinary boundaries and blurs the distinctions between theory, practice, fiction and non-fiction. We hope to create a culture around academic knowledge practices that is more inventive and less constrained while fostering a unique collaboration between writers, artists, archivists, librarians and publishing professionals.
Goldsmiths Press is the UK’s first green open access monograph university press publisher, combining open access with a fair and varied pricing model for print books. We are committed to sustainable, non-commercial open access, and wherever possible, we transfer open access titles from our institutional repository (Goldsmiths Research Online) to PubPub, MIT’s open access platform. Our books are distributed globally by MIT Press and Penguin US. Goldsmiths Press titles can be ordered from The Publishers Group UK

Lancaster University Open Journals
Lancaster University Open Journals is a platform managed by the Library for hosting open access journals edited by Lancaster University Researchers. The platform supports a variety of publication types including peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Lancaster University Open Journals uses the open-source software Open Journal Systems to support the entire publishing workflow from researcher to reader, including submission, peer-review and online publication. All journals hosted by the service will be fully Open Access.

The LJMU Open Journals Service is available to Liverpool John Moores University staff and students who are interested in setting up their own online journals. The service, run by LJMU Library Services uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) to support the publishing process, including submission, peer-review and online publication. The Library will help with the initial set-up of a journal and provide ongoing technical support.

LSE Press is a publisher of high quality, open access research in the social sciences. Through rigorous peer-review and the use of innovative digital approaches we promote the widest possible engagement with social science research. Based in the Library of the London School of Economics, LSE Press works with authors to develop and launch publications that reflect the LSE founding purpose and mission.

LSHTM Press is an open access publisher of peer-reviewed research and high-quality educational resources, publishing in the fields of public and global health. Our aim is to develop and launch publications that reflect the purpose and mission of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide and to enable the widest possible dissemination so that people around the world can find and access the information they need without barriers.

Open Library of the Humanities
The Open Library of Humanities is an award-winning open access publisher of internationally leading academic scholarship. We publish 33+ journals in the humanities and social sciences that are supported by an international network of more than 350 university and public libraries. Our mission is to support and extend open access to scholarship in the humanities – for free, for everyone, for ever. Our goal is to liberate university research from commercial control. We believe that scholarship should be academic-led and community-owned.

Open Press at University of Sussex
The Open Press at the University of Sussex is Library-led institutional publishing. It is in its early stages and so far, has focused on the publication of open textbooks, handbooks and teaching materials. Longer term, our aim is to support the full range of research and scholarship publishing. As institutional publishers, we are not-for-profit and entirely open access.

Queen’s University Belfast Library are exploring open publishing options for the university and hope our membership of OIPA will allow us to better understand the landscape and learn from this community of best practice.

Salford Open Journals is supported by the University of Salford Library. We offer fully Open Access Journal publishing for our community of students, academics and staff.

Scottish Universities Press is a fully open access and not-for-profit publishing press owned and managed by 18 Scottish academic libraries, coordinated through the Scottish Confederation of University and Research Libraries (SCURL). We aim to provide a clear and cost-effective route for researchers at Scottish institutions to make their work freely available to a global audience, responding to upcoming changes to REF, UKRI and other funder policies around open access books. We will initially publish monographs and edited collections on any subject by academic staff from participating institutions. SUP is community-led and aims to be responsive to the needs of the academic community in Scotland that it serves. The collaborative infrastructure established through SUP demonstrates Scottish institutions’ commitment to open access innovation, working as major contributors to global efforts to create a fair and equitable academic publishing model.

SHOx is a service available to Oxford affiliated publications (e.g. journals) for the dissemination of scholarly works in an open access ‘diamond’ model, in which works are free to publish and to read. The platform can support a variety of shortform publication types including peer reviewed journals, conference proceedings and other alternative work like reports or working papers.
SHOx uses the open-source software Open Journal Systems to support the entire publishing workflow from researcher to reader, including submission, peer-review and online publication.

Established as the UK’s first fully open access university press in 2015, UCL Press has fast become one of the leading open access scholarly publishers in the UK, publishing both traditional peer-reviewed scholarly works and innovative research outputs. We currently publish around 60 open access books a year in addition to 15 academic journals, and support UCL’s successful student journals programme.
Based at UCL, one of the world’s leading research universities, our primary outputs are scholarly monographs and edited collections, but we also publish textbooks, journals and other innovative research outputs. Our books have been accessed more than 8 million times by readers across the world. UCL Press makes all its books and journals available in open access form to download freely in PDF form or read online anywhere in the world. They can be downloaded freely from UCL Press’s website or from the many other platforms where they are distributed.

University of Huddersfield Press
The University of Huddersfield Press was established in 2007 and has grown to become a digital-first fully open access publisher of high-quality research. Our authors and editorial boards bring international expertise and a strong orientation to practice and real-world application to their publications. Our non-profit Press is keen to support emerging researchers and foster research communities by providing a platform for developing academic areas, publishing peer reviewed open access journals, monographs and music.

University of Leicester Open Journals
University of Leicester Open Journals supports community-led, open access journals run by our staff and students. We publish peer-reviewed research in Museum Studies, the teaching of Physical Sciences, Media and Communications and Interdisciplinary projects. We also host several student-run journals that are part of our Physics and Natural Sciences degrees.

The University of London Press is supported by the School of Advanced Study at the University of London. Our programme of cutting-edge humanities research is built on a long publishing history and a commitment to supporting researchers. We are a proudly non-profit, predominantly open access university press, and an expert and creative publishing partner for authors and organisations we work with. Our growing books programme covers most humanities disciplines, and we currently publish a number of dedicated open access book series including New Historical Perspectives and Reimagining Law and Justice.

University of St Andrews Journal Hosting Service
University of St Andrews Journal Hosting Service is managed by the Open Research team, which is part of the University’s Libraries & Museums. The service uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) to support the publishing process, including submission, peer review, and online publication. While editorial teams for each journal are responsible for the management, administration, and content of the journal, the Journal Hosting Service acts as an electronic distributor, providing a secure home and archive for the journal, as well as relevant training and technical support for editors and authors. The service is free of charge to staff and students, and currently hosts almost a dozen active journals, all of which are open access.

The University of Southampton Press
The University of Southampton Press will be a not-for-profit, fully open access publisher of peer-reviewed research and diverse scholarly outputs. In partnership with SciFree, we are developing the Dynamica platform for researchers, educators and students to share their work widely and without barriers.
Shaped by our academic community, the Press is set to launch in early 2026 to reflect the values and mission of the University by supporting inclusive and innovative publishing

The University of Warwick Press (UWP) is an evolving open access, digital, academic publisher across a wide range of academic disciplines, reflecting the diversity of research undertaken by the University. It has an developing monograph programme and hosts an established range of diamond open access research journals managed by scholars across the institution. We support open access publication of books, journals, conference proceedings, short-form monographs, and data journals, and are open to proposals in other formats. Proposals and contributions are welcomed from across the academic community, not just academics within the University of Warwick.

University of Westminster Press
The University of Westminster Press, established in 2015, is an award-winning, non-profit, open access university press of high-quality peer reviewed arts, humanities and social science research, publishing for a global audience. We are the publisher of six journals and over 50 books, with book series that include Critical Digital and Social Media Studies, CAMRI Policy Briefs and Reports, Law and the Senses and Cultural China. UWP champions a community-led approach to academic publishing, advocating for an ethical, inclusive and equitable model that puts the needs of the scholarly community first.

White Rose University Press (WRUP) is a non-profit, open access digital publisher of peer-reviewed academic journals and books, publishing across a wide range of academic disciplines. WRUP is run jointly by the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York but welcomes proposals from across the wider academic community. Committed to open access dissemination of research and teaching materials, WRUP is also focused on ensuring academic quality, and supporting innovation in digital publishing.
WRUP believes the future of academic publishing is open, and looks to support the transition to an open scholarship environment with publications that are freely accessible to all, ensuring maximum global reach and impact. WRUP is committed to supporting authors and researchers, providing accessible publication routes for high-quality research outputs and teaching materials in the service of open scholarship.

Amherst College Press produces pathbreaking, peer-reviewed scholarship and makes it available to readers everywhere as digital, open-access work and affordable paperback books. As a diamond/platinum open-access press, we charge no fees to authors, their institutions, or readers. Our books are published on Fulcrum, a platform created by Michigan Publishing, allowing narrative to be richly integrated with multimedia and optimized for long-term preservation and accessibility.

Brown University Digital Publications
Brown University Digital Publications — generously launched with support from the Mellon Foundation in 2015 with additional support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services — creates exciting new conditions for the production and sharing of knowledge by advancing scholarly arguments in ways not achievable in a conventional print format, whether through multimedia enhancements or interactive engagement with research materials. Brown partners with leading scholarly presses to bring peer reviewed, open access, multimodal content to global audiences. Widely recognized as accessible, intentional, and inclusive, Brown’s novel, library-based approach to born-digital monograph publishing is helping to set the standards for the future of scholarship in the digital age.

Jisc is the UK digital, data and technology agency focused on tertiary education, research and innovation. As a not-for-profit organisation, Jisc provides products and services, enhanced with expertise and intelligence to provide sector leadership and enable digital transformation. This includes providing trusted expert advice and practical assistance, providing insight, guidance and leadership, delivering training and events and building communities in many areas including open research.

Open Book Publishers is an award-winning, not-for-profit open access book publisher based in Cambridge, UK. We are independent, run by scholars and committed to making high-quality peer-reviewed research freely available to readers around the world. We publish across all disciplines and we are particularly interested in projects that experiment with the possibilities offered by digital publishing. We do not charge authors a fee to publish open access. We are also an active member of international communities of publishers, scholars, librarians and infrastructure providers, including Copim, ScholarLed, OPERAS, and now OIPA, that are building powerful networks and open, community-led infrastructures to create a future in which knowledge is shared openly and equitably.

Society of Antiquaries of Scotland
The Society of Antiquaries of Scotland is the oldest antiquarian society in Scotland, founded in 1780 to provide an independent forum for the study, conservation and enjoyment of Scotland’s past. The Society’s scholarly publishing programme aims to ‘promote the understanding and conservation of Scotland’s past for the benefit of all’ by publishing high-quality peer-reviewed research. The Society currently publishes an annual journal (Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland) that offers both green and gold open access, a series of open access peer-reviewed excavation reports (Scottish Archaeological Internet Reports) and is in the process of expanding our selection of open access ebooks.
